Tim,
The 'service' command in Fedora is only used for once-off actions, it will only stop sshd in this instance. sshd will just start again at
the next reboot, or if you change init levels (i.e. from console (3) to graphical (5)).
Use the 'chkconfig' script as suggested in a previous mail, this will modify the scripts in /etc/rc.d to disable it permanantly.

That sounds like a good idea.
I never use ssh on my desktop.
I've turned it off with "service sshd stop".
(Fedora has everything.)
I see I am running all sorts of servicees I never use.
Canna? What on earth is that?
