One is the ethernet/ppp interface to an ADSL modem,
and the other is the interface to an ethernet LAN.

Actually I have a third interface
to a WiFi LAN.
But it seemed that one could list more than one LAN
(which I have done) in the two-interfaces model.
The three-interface model appears to be for a DMZ.
