SCO reports "improved performance," Bigfoot sighting
   By John Paczkowski

"The quarter can best be described as one where the
company was firing on all cylinders from improved
performance in the UNIX business to enhanced
financial discipline and greater investment in our
      legal case."

That was SCO CEO Darl McBride's remarkable comment on a
quarter in which the beleaguered Unix company saw a 44
percent decline in revenue. For its third fiscal quarter,
SCO reported a net loss of $7.4 million. That's a sharp
contrast to a year ago, when the company reported a
profit of $3.1 million on revenue of $20.1 million. The
loss was largely due to legal fees associated with the
company's campaign against Linux and its largely
unsuccessful efforts to sell Unix intellectual property
licenses to Linux users. Clearly, all is not well in
Lindon. Indeed, with its cash reserves dwindling and its
share price in the doldrums, SCO's board has approved a
revised shareholder rights plan designed to prevent
 hostile takeovers. [ ... ]
