I plan of stress testing this box (as I just got it) before putting it
into production in the attic :)
This is for my HAN, but I treat my home systems like my work ones :)

Yes I agree, and I figured out why it wanted /boot off the logical drive:
The JBOD is the first disk /dev/sda and therefore the bootable drive.
Normally you can do likewise with /dev/sdb, but because /dev/sdb is
mirrored and LVM'd with /dev/sdc (a non bootable drive) it required
another boot medium.
This is all pre-coffee hypothesis mind you :)
