So you want 2 drives plugged into the mobo integrated Sata controller
and justuse the 3Ware for storage.

Why do you want raid1 for /boot?
You could use practically any sized IDE or sata drive to boot from
instead.Just burn a bootable image of /boot onto a cdr/cdrw everytime
you do a kernel upgrade :)

I'd be surprised if the BIOS couldn't boot from a container created
with the onboard controller (it's an add-on chip seperate from the
southbridge).

Look for any BIOS updates, and failing that, mail the mobo
manufacturer asking them to add the feature to a new BIOS release.
