Hi all,
Well I am trying to import a filesystem on the old disk so that I can
fsck it & consequently recover the data.
Here is what ubuntu sees, the disk (/dev/hda) is from a fedora
core3 install:
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 9105 MB, 9105023488 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1106 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 1056 8482288+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 1057 1106 401625 f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/sda5 1057 1106 401593+ 82 Linux swap
Disk /dev/hda: 81.9 GB, 81964302336 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9964 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 14 78 522112+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 79 9964 79409295 83 Linux
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo vgchange -an VolGroup00
0 logical volume(s) in volume group "VolGroup00" now active
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo vgexport VolGroup00
Volume group "VolGroup00" successfully exported
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo pvscan
PV /dev/hda3 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [75.72 GB / 32.00 MB free]
Total: 1 [75.72 GB] / in use: 1 [75.72 GB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ]
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo vgimport VolGroup00
Volume group "VolGroup00" successfully imported
All grand so far...
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo vgimport VolGroup00 /dev/hda3
Volume group "VolGroup00" is not exported
Unable to find exported volume group "hda3"
Hmm,
Do I need to be using LVM on my ubuntu disk, surely not?
Should /dev/hda3 not be seen as "type 8e" rather than "type 83"?
If so, should I do an fdisk on /dev/hda3 and change it?
Would that cause havoc? I think "possibly" not, as I would not be changing
the partition size.
As I do not yet have a backup (cough, splutter) I thought it prudent to
ask ye first :--)
