This is what I now get:
conor at charzard:~ $ sudo hdparm -t /dev/hda
Timing buffered disk reads: 86 MB in 3.06 seconds = 28.13 MB/sec
Much more acceptable. 6MB p/sec was painfull.
Why did I not have to re-create the initrd though, I am confused
about that one!
