In my case, it has the opposite effect -
I sort by date, with the most recent on top,
so ancient email is way down the pile.
I only notice it because I am told I have unread mail.

If they put a future date on the email I could understand,
but that never occurs in my case.
(Maybe spamassassin or my ISP throws it out?)

Just one of the many mysteries of spam.

I saw a guy got 9 years in prison for sending spam -
apparently he was sending 1,000,000 spams a day.

If people were charge a miniscule sum for email -
say 0.01 cents per item -
wouldn't that discourage spammers?
It would still be 5000 times cheaper than smail.
