I bet those Adaptecs were cheap, yeah? Decent ATA RAID controllers 
(3Ware, LSI) are rather more expensive (3 figure prices) but rather 
better. Also, you're MOST unlikely to get them off the shelf in Dublin.

If you're trying to do it on the cheap, just use Linux software RAID.
