I've done the same - just today - and I have hopefully done it corectly.

I simply did:
# spamassassin --lint *.cf
$ sudo service spamassassin restart ; sudo spamass-milter restart

Is that right?

I have a HAM and SPAM folder on the IMAP server, I then manually move
relevant HAM/SPAM to the folders, to which a cronjob runs:

sa-learn --spam --mbox mail/SPAM ; sa-learn --ham --mbox mail/HAM

Works for me.
