AFAIK and IA most definitely NAL this is exactly the case in Irish law. 
I seem to recall case of people buying stolen goods in good faith and 
when the original owner of the goods traced them, they did not have any 
right to the good because they had been bought in good faith.

If that were indeed true, then the buyer of these goods could of course 
sell them.

This is completely and utterly OT, but not really a whole lot more OT 
than the rest of the discussion.
