Hi all,

I am working on an class project for my operating systems module and have run into problems. My supervisior has suggested that I EMAIL the ILUG. Please can somebody point me in the right direction.

I am fairly new to linux an I am trying to build a Virtual Private Server.

I have downloaded a kernel [2.4.25] and patch [1.26] that from the linux-vserver.org.

The system that I'm using is MANDRAKE Linux 10.0. which was orginal running a kernel of version 2.6.3 -7mdk

The problem is that after I have patched the downloaded kernel. I configured and compiled the kernel, and the following error occurs:

===========================================
ERROR MESSAGE:
There was an error when generating initrd. Try to do a :
/sbin/mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.25-vs1.26.img 2.4.25-vs1.26
to see the errors
looks like there is a problem, the default vmlinuz version is not the same
as the initrd
which means you have a mdk kernel and not a mdk initrd wich may give you trouble
not adding bootloader entry: 2425-vs126, it already exists
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.25/arch/i386/boot'
No module DAC960 found for kernel 2.4.25-vs1.26, aborting.
============================================

Would any persons have an idea as to what i am doing wrong ?

I would be very greatful if anybody could provide information

Thanks,
Gary
