Hi all

I had been trying to install Ruby on to the Trusty FC4 box. Downloaded
ruby-1.8.2.7fc4.2i386.rpm but attempting and install produed a
dependancy for ruby libs so downloaded and installed
ruby-libs-1.8.2.7.fc4.2.i386.rpm. Going back to the ruby rpm this told
me that ruby libs could not be found on the system but on checking it
had installed sucessfully. So I thought hummmm.... I hoked through the
packages on Add/Remove applications and sure enough there was Ruby -
basic support for the ruby programming language so I installed that
(note I only checked this one option withing the development group) This
then proceeded to install around 40 packages or ~ 4 Mb These all seemed
to be programming languages or bits thereof eg perl python etc. Is it
likely that all these packages were in fact required for Ruby?? (Ruby is
now functional so at least it was installed correctly)

At this point its not a big deal but I would just like to have installed
those packages that I really need.

Cheers

David
