[ILUG] blueface & linux

Hi,

I've heard a few people on this list allude to using Blueface VoIP. My
girlfriend is using IBB Ripwave in her apartment. After some initial
issues it mostly works fine now. This afternoon I set about trying to get
Blueface to work over it.

First I tried linphone. It told me it connected successfully but I could
never get it to actually ring anything.

Then I tried kphone. It worked a bit better and I managed to ring Blueface
support and hear the answer phone response (not open Sunday). However, any
time I tried to ring other numbers such as a Dublin landline or an 083
mobile phone I got a voice saying that extension didn't exist. It was also
rather garbled and disconnected irregularly.

Then I swallowed my pride and tried the proprietary X-Ten softphone. I
only had a few minutes to test it and didn't actually have microphone to
hand but I immediately got through to an 083 mobile and heard the person
speak clear as a bell. I've now tried it from home (on aDSL) and I get
perfect results with X-Ten and similar confusion with the others.

So, I guess the free softphones were poorly configured? I don't really
want to use the proprietary one. Does anyone use Blueface happily with a
free softphone? If so, any hints on which softphone/version works best and
on configuration to use with Blueface? If I get one working I'll try and
document it properly.

Many thanks in advance,
Gavin
