Not particularly, but given it's a sort of DB (hierarchical rather
than relational[1]), it can be used in complex ways.
Also, OpenLDAP isn't particularly easy to manage, most particularly
wrt ACLs. ACLs of themselves can be difficult to manage, OpenLDAP
makes it even more difficult in how it implements configuration of
these.

NIS is the simple, insecure alternative.
