You havn't specified to use encrypt passwords required by XP (I'm 
assuming modern Win.)

or security level in globals

security = user  (or share)
encrypt passwords = yes



Have you done the "signorseal" registry hack if the PC's are XP,

smbpasswd -a "username"  to add to your samba users, you will bw 
prompted for pw(s)
