the link as designed is broken.  i wish people would quit defending it.
suggestions for solutions would be more useful.

1) the story announcing the archive lacks a link to said archive: that's
   broken.
2) http://www.linux.ie/news/ is not a "news archive."  it is a search
   page for news articles.  it should be labeled as such.
3) the fact that you can specify queries in the url and that the search
   engine uses file-globbing style searches could be used to create an
   actual "news archive" link: http://www.linux.ie/news/?query=*
