Not really no. Those pilots were not expected to return, at all, full 
stop. Don't forget these guys had their "last rites" performed before 
taking off.

The planes didn't have landing gears, to save weight, and hence fuel. 
Nose cone of these planes were full of explosives and detonators, rest 
of the plane packed with explosives as well, so a crash landing would 
not have been pleasant either.

Not expected to ferry any planes anywhere, that was the job of aircraft 
carriers.

PS. What this has to do with the original Word 2003 question, I have no 
idea, and I think this is going off on that tangent Colm mentioned 
initially.. ;)
