 interesting!
 that does seem to work (with GNU sed(1) anyways), 
 albeit I've never(?) before either seen, or seen
 documented, the `\x' replacement-escape.  after a
 very _quick_ skim of GNUs `info sed' (GNUs sed(1)
 man page is (almost) useless  ;-(  ), I still can
 say I've never, AFAIK, seen it documented .... ;-\
