nope. ;)  rent, in the bay area at least, is notably pricey.
however, food and booze is definitely cheaper.

it does -- however, most (all?) US health insurance schemes don't
cover expenses entirely, so there's often a large proportion that
comes from the employee, as a mix of pre-tax contribution from salary,
post-tax co-pays, deductibles etc.... it's a complicated mess ;)
It can take a good chunk of salary.
