Some of the iRiver units have builtin USB ports which allow you to
plug USB mass storage devices into them and copy data from those
devices onto the iRiver hard drive. They also let you play files from
the mass storage devices. I imagine this is what is being referred
to.
For iRiver <-> PC connection, they use a seperate USB connection which
will work with both USB 2 and USB 1.1 ports (though much more slowly
with 1.1)
