Erm... forgive me if I misunderstand the problem, but is this not a
typical case where booting from a DOS boot disk and issueing the command
~ "fdisk /mbr" will fix things? If you want a Windows only machine, this
will replace the MBR and call the windows bootloader.
DOS boot disks and fdisk for DOS are available all over the internet
(even though they probably shouldn't be, maybe?)
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
-->Gar

\hda1 or something?
|
| i have tried the repair option also but it needs to reboot to continue
the repair and obviously on reboot i am not getting past the grub loader.

boot working. The recovery console has tools for rebuilding the windows
bootstrap but you say you can't get at it. Have you tried both
installing XP and chosing the "repair current installation" as well as
trying to log into the recovery console?

access my XP installation (obviously) and i have no unallocated space on
the hard drive. i have two partitions C: and D: both NTFS. Could i use a
DOS boot disk to fdisk some free space for linux on D: or something?
