Trying not to get involved but.....

Hours of compiling ? try jackass.homelinux.org... (prebuilt 2005.0
stage3 that performs brilliantly although they have none for 64bit...
maybe in the future)

CFLAGS and optimisations are not what Gentoo is all about, they have
their place but it is the USE flags and being in full control of your
system (ie not having a load of shite lying around that you never even
use) that it's about. I've never had a problem with an ebuild (lucky
maybe) and portage can use packages anyway if your that way inclined.

And as for people giving out about downloading source and compiling it
and not using debian's idea of packages, well, isn't the ability to
get the source and compile it yourself with whatever extras or edits
or whatever you like the whole purpose of the GNU GPL and the whole
spirit of FLOSS ? Get a grip.... if you like prebuilt, run everywhere,
totally generic, binary only os and a lot of shite lying around doing
nothing then I suggest you look here....
www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/default.mspx

Don't dish other people cause they don't agree with you... that's a
major problem.

No prize for guessing what I run....
