Yeah - it's fairly simple to do the different heads to different users
in Linux / X11 - since you just set up X11 instances to use a particular
monitor. I used to do this before the advent of Xinerama so I actually
spawned two screen sessions ( :0 and :1 ) one on each head.
I'm not too sure about how you'd configure X to use a pair of keyboards
and mice and direct each one to a specific monitor, but I'm sure it's
possible - I've just never had the need to try it.
Re Kae's earlier comment, I seem to recall Linux Journal reporting on a
setup for computers in African (or somewhere similar) schools, where
they saved a huge amount of money by using something like quad-headed
boxes, and some keyboard/mouse breakout thing, so that 4 people could
simoultaneously use one box - thus the cost per computer per pupil was
almost divided by four. It's a good while since I read the article so I
forget the details, sorry. As Kae says, google or the search on LJ
should find it for you.
Bottom line, I've not tried what you seem to want, but it sounds
reasonably achievable and it may even be that someone has done something
very similar before and made their findings available.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
-->Gar
