Course ;)

But, what happens 3 years down the road when the controller fails and 
you find the spare has been pressed into service? Or you find that 
the raidcontroller's firmware is still the original firmware - the 
one in service having at some point had an upgrade (which rewrote 
on-disk meta-data incompatible with original version, etc..).

NB: Obviously the controller vendor no longer supports that model or 
offers the required firmware update on their site. ;)
