[ILUG] Windows 98 Replacement?

Hi all,

I'm off to Indonesia next week, and my girlfriend's parent's old computer
sounds like it's in an unusable state - I've been given the task to make it
usable again.

I'm looking for something to replace Win98 on some type of Pentium 2 (just a
guess) with probably minimal RAM - you know the story. I also suspect
they'll have a winmodem too - but if the worse comes to the worst I'll buy
them a new modem. (or maybe stick with a 2.4 kernel and download a winmodem
driver)

Can anyone recommend any suitable software which could replace Outlook,
Internet Explorer, Word and of course Win98? A distro designed for such a
purpose would be even better - as I don't want to have to download extra
stuff over the internet there (Ireland is bad enough, can't quite imagine how
internet would be in Indonesia...).

I'll give Damn Small Linux a test run later on - although I suspect that it'll
be overkill. The only other distro that comes to mind is Debian Stable with
KDE2.

John.

P.S. I reread the lightweight wm thread - main thing here is that usability
would also be a premium.
