On (10/03/05 13:29), Daniel Goldsmith didst pronounce:

I got the same reply. I replied to him and asked him not to send on any
more MS Word attachments. The reason he's using it is because he's
getting a lot of mails about the issue, so he's got a standard response
to it which he sends. The reason it's MS Word is because that's what's
provided to him.
He apologised for sending the Word attachment when I said I didn't have
software available to read it. Of course, I replied saying I understood
his position, and thanked him again for his support against software
patents.
As well as this, I told him of the replies I got from Brian Crowley,
specifically asking if the Irish government had done any investigation
as to the possible negative impact on the Irish software industry (not
the multinationals, of course). Simon said he would have to look into
this for me.
All in all, I found him much more on our side than Brian Crowley. He
also replied to all my questions. Even if he didn't have an answer (like
to the question above), he said he would check it out.
While Brian Crowley was also helpful, giving a good rundown of the
procedure for bringing in new legislation, he definitely seems to be in
favour of the software patents being made law. I would suggest that
people with more solid examples of the negative side of this should
email him with them.
