The site is still available - the MPlayer team pulled this stunt before
just to make a point, but they're not renowned for their reasoned
responses to situations (wasn't there once a statement from them along
the lines that binary packages violate the GPL? - I thought crying about
licensing violation was a bit rich from them given they offer
proprietary binary codecs on their site without mention of the original
authors)

All that happens when you throw all your toys out of the pram is you
end up with no toys left to play with. While the situation is dire, all
the MPlayer move will achieve is they'll be branded as a bunch of
hotheads yet again...
