Or indeed, if you know the phone number of the house you want to burgle,
keep ringing it from an anonymous mobile. While the phone rings out (3
mins?) or if there is an answering machine, the phone line will be tied
up and not call Phonewatch. Perhaps enough time to smash the phonewatch
box off the wall / cut the phoneline leading to it. Of course, this
would probably be beyond the planning capabilities of most burglars.
