Right,

else do you want to do with the computer?

If you are just serving files, printing via the machine, and using it
for serving email to other machines, as well as spam filtering etc. then
you could do alot worse than one of the Shuttle barebones systems.

If you look at komplett.ie they have a number there, with the cheapest
AMD based system being quite a good performer. Add CPU, RAM, DVDRW, and
2 hard disks of the same size and you can set yourself up a nice small
quiet server for your house, with redundancy using software RAID, and
backups using the DVDRW.

Also, building it is fun.
