From what I can gather (I can get a definitive answer if anyone wants),
the requirements are something like a completely translated kdelibs.po,
a partly translated kio.po and at least 75% translation of the basic
desktop* files in the templates directory of kde-i18n. The ga
translation is currently:

kdelibs.po - 90.75%
kio.po - 48.56% (probably a bit on the low side)

And as for the desktop* files - it'll vary from package to package but
for the two most popular:
kdelibs - 77.81
kdebase - 75.48

It falls off for other packages but in the main you're not talking about
_too many_ strings. All this info is available from:

For anyone that is interested - these packages can be downloaded as
source and installed manually for any KDE release. For the latest, 3.4,
you'll get the ga package from:
ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.kde.org/stable/3.4/src/kde-i18n/kde-i18n-ga-3.4.0.tar.bz2

(I know this isn't as handy as a package)

I think you're right. Debian should package them. If people realise they
can use their desktop in Irish they might switch to it for the "cupla
focal" and they might even be inclined to help out.

And that brings me onto a call for help....

Personally I hardly have a cupla focal let alone focal amhain. Kevin
Scannell has been doing some Trojan work on translating KDE in Irish
over the past few months and a number of others before him. It's a long
and arduous task but not without its rewards!

Kevin and the KDE-ga team would LOVE and APPRECIATE the help of any
Irish speaker with the cupla focal. If you are interested you can
e-mail me offlist and I'll put you in touch with the right people or
visit:

for more information.
