I had something like this happen about 6 months ago. Applied for position A in a company. Got a phone call from a previous employer wanting to interview me. I was polite and asked how come he had got my number (it had changed since leaving this company) he told me a recruiter had passed it on to him.

Phoned up this recruiter seemed he had passed it on to all his clients (even ones I had previously worked for) for QA roles  (even though I had told him I was not interested in a QA Position)

Some times they take the pis$, as it works out I have sent an applcaition myself to my new company and when I got offered a second interview they asked me if I had contacted them personally or via a recruiter, as he had just sent my CV in ( again with out asking me) He was looking for 10% of my wages upfront and another 5% if I stayed for a year.
