I don't think I would normally get involved in such a thread either,
but I was pissed off(at something else) that day, and someone
attacking my emailing style broke the camels back.

I usually top-post when I consider it appropriate, and I get the
occasional bollocking, which I either ignore, or simply reply to
off-list stating politely that I don't agree with their position on
top-posting.
