Personally, if an email is made difficult for me to read, I'll only bother
with it if the content is likely to provide some benefit to me.

Only if (s)he is providing you with an answer to a question you've asked.
Anyway, just to make clear which camp I'm in: I post inline or at the
bottom with copious trimming where appropriate. My suggestion is, if
somebodies email practices annoy you that much, why not just killfile them
and get on with your life.
If people are ignorant enough to go against the preferred practice of the
majority on a mailing list while asking for assistance, do you want to
receive mail from them? If said people are providing assistance, then
they're perfectly entitled to write their mails how they see fit, but
probably shouldn't expect their mails to be read by everyone.
And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, for if you hit a man
with a plowshare, he's going to know he's been hit.
