[ILUG] rpm bug?

 Hi all,

Has anyone ever come across the behaviour described below, preferably under
 some variant of RedHat?

Consider a directory containing about a number of rpms. Some of them are
installed, some of them aren't. rpm -Uhv * in the directory tells me all
about the already installed rpms, but completely fails to install the others.

Would this be considered a bug, or am I simply going about it the wrong way?

The alternative approach is to test eaach rpm individually, build a list
of those that are not installed, and then rpm -Uhv $list.

I am deliberatly not posting any specific version information right now ;-)
