I had an issue with choppy video which I traced to a 10 Base-T NIC I
didn't even know I owned... Thing is, I only noticed the issue with
mplayer - xine seemed to play videos smoothly (I actually recompiled
mplayer at one stage :-/ - oh dear!). 700-800 KB/s over SMB was just not
enough.

Strange, though, as most of the stuff I have would be encoded at a max
of around 1500 kbps with maybe a 160-192 kbps soundtrack...
