I run an old (6+years) Dell Latitude Cpx 500mhz with 512MB's RAM at
home. It's got a Xircom PC-card for ethernet and a 15GB Hard disk, but
it runs Apache, MySql, OpenLDAP, WordPress and Gallery on Gentoo,
without a graphical UI. Being a laptop, it's also its own UPS and can
gracefully bring itself down when it detects itself hitting battery
mode. And running with the laptop mode tools keeps it barely alive when
not busy, so it's super low on power.
It has never let me down, and it sits there in my dark attic with the
lid closed and nothing but the Linksys router and PAP2 for company!
You can pick one up from ebay.ie pretty cheaply and ebay also has a
great selection of spare parts! Check out
