Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a way to implement pre-paid web browsing using squid
as a transparent proxy with user authentication. Clients would buy
pre-paid cards with pre-configured proxy usernames, each with a 1 hour
credit etc.
The project is for a local charity who are considering providing
internet access to clients of their service on computer resources
which the clients already have free and open access to for typing and
printing cv's etc. The idea behind charging for the internet access is
to prevent the limited pc resources being hogged by internet junkies.
I'm looking at commercial solutions, but I'm not keen to have the
charity getting into maintainance fees and concurrent user limits, and
would like to implement a solution with squid.
Anybody seen anything like this done with squid before?? I think I can
knock it up fairly quickly with cron'd log analysis and a JSP
administration with apache/tomcat, but I'm not overly keen to
re-invent the wheel for the sake of it.
Owen.
