hmmm.... I'm worried about this as I'll be wanting the machine to 
automatically get updates and reboot weekly. If it doesn't only 
successfully boots sometimes then,... well........ that's bad. I didn't 
have this problem with Debian so thought Ubuntu would react the same. Do 
you know how I can check whether it's the driver or the chipset?

It's related to the fact that I had to set GRUB to use 'root (hd0,1)' 
because it was trying to mount the swap partition, (the initial 
problem). What I was trying to ask was why didn't the system recognise 
that the first partition was the swap and know I mounted the second 
partition as root? Just wondering as it seems like a pretty basic thing 
to me.
