[ILUG] Ubuntu and inet.d

I have just installed a copy of Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) and noticed that although
inet.d was installed along with hosts.allow and hosts.deny files the inet.d
configuration file was completely empty. It doesn't appear that any services
installed are run through inet.d.

So - if its not used, why is it installed?

Should I just dump it and rely on iptables to secure outside access to
services?

Is the server installation configured any differently wrt inet.d?

Kevin.
