Firstly, sorry for the top posting. I'm in a bit of a hurry but wanted to
jump in before I forgot about the thread when I get back later.

Yes, I have a USB Sound blaster Odgidy 2 here and it’s the biggest lode of
crap I've ever put my hands on. For recording, there's a constant hiss from
both the line in and the mike jack. I bought it for the same reason that
you did, keep things away from the internal interference of the computer,
God, I was really wrong!

I'm thinking of buying one of the decent cards from marx-computers or
komplette but I'm not really sure what one to go for at the moment. I'm
meant to be installing a PCI version of this card tomorrow for a friend so
I'll mess around with that for a while and decide then.

Let me know how you get on.

Subject: [ILUG] usb sound cards

howya,

i'm thinking about getting a decent soundcard because i'm fed up with
listening to my flac files through the headphone jack on my motherboard.
i'm tempted by usb soundcards because it makes sense to keep the audio
electronics out of the way of all the emf in the pc case.

i've never actally used a usb soundcard before, i'll be using ubuntu so i'm
assumimg they'll just plug and play. has anyone had any bad experiences with
them?

john.
