Info only, Xen Source (commercial version of Xen) was released today.
V3.1 supports Linux & Windows (XP/2003). Free download version, Xen
Express, at xensource.com which supports 2 sockets, 4GB mem, 4
concurrent VM's. Note if you want to host Windows you must have an
Intel-VT or AMD-V processor set, most new hardware ships with these
chipsets now. Linux only does not require these chipsets. Xen Server is
a Windows only version hosting 8 VM's supporting 2 sockets and 8GB ram
and is available on subscription only but at $99 a year. Xen Enterprise
is the unlimited version supporting up to 32 sockets and aimed squarely
at VMWare. $750 plus $150 maintenance per year or yearly subscription
for €488 per pair of sockets. Not quite the same functionality of VMWare
but 80% at a fraction of the cost. Multi VM Management console is
included at no cost. Euro pricing out any day now. All versions are
bare-metal, no guest OS required. No 64-bit support until mid 2007, it
will include 64-bit Linux & Solaris 10 when that comes out. Regards
Terry Cox.
