As soon as I posted, the answer turned up. paxctl can adjust these
things on a per binary basis, if you know paxctl exists, and if
you install it... and if you knew what you should have read, etc.

/hangs head shamefaced :-(.

Stellarium isn't bad, btw.

580fps with DRI. Now to try to find out how to make it go a 
little faster. 580fps is nothing to boast about.
