Well, roughly speaking, two cores use twice as much electricity as one, 
but the two core processors are newer designs, with power efficiency as 
a critical goal, and they run at very low voltages, to use even less 
power.

The net result being that a dual core CPU does somewhat more real world 
work than a previous generation single core CPU, albeit at a lower 
frequency, and consumes rather less power.
