Exactly what I was thinking, sounds like a kernel upgrade & nfs-utils  
upgrade on the server, and problem machines may resolve this.

The subrevision is important.

2.4.what? I would cyheck bugzilla if I were you.

What about nfsstat? checked what its reporting at the time of issues?
