Google and Yahoo win slightly more credibility if they wish to be
regarded as not so evil. If they use it to their competitive advantage,
they could also impact MS's revenues elsewhere, people are prepared to
put their money behind civil liberties.
There are countless manufacturers who got pressured into fair work
practises and better employment standards, including in China.
But regardless, even if their was no win for Google or Yahoo, even if
they eventually went bankrupt over it, it would *still* be wrong. The
only way liberties can be protected is through the shared vigiliance of
many.
Pointing to another weak-link in the chain and thinking you no longer
matter doesn't cut it. Either civil liberties matter more than money or
they don't. Otherwise there is no solution, ever.
