[ILUG] Ubuntu upgrade bombed

The exact same thing happened to me, apart from my root being /dev/sda2.
I was able to boot using the -386 kernels I tried, but any of the 686
ones resulted in the above message.
There is something very wrong in the upgrade path from Breezy to Drapper
Drake.
I messed around with it for a few hours then backed up my config
settings and installed Drapper from cd. Everythings going much more
smoothly now :)
