I dumped it and installed from a new CD. I have it working now. I still
need to pull in some packages from breezy. Can someone explain the
difference between OpenOffice2 and OpenOffice2-experimental? OpenOffice2
doesn't work on dapper and just dies, OpenOffice2-experimental does seem
to work.
One problem I had was slight scratches on the disk which killed the
install dead. Another issue was my machine has two DVD's on the same
cable (one master, one slave) and when I started the install from the
master it got confused later on and tried to read from the slave giving
me an error that the disk was not suitable for installation. All I had
to do was make sure the second DVD was empty and it worked fine but it
took me a while to twig that one.
I can now tinker with Dapper - but I am keeping my Gentoo install as a
backup in case Dapper dies again.
Kevin.
