Not necessarily, maybe the boot sector is gone?
Boot of a rescue CD, you can use your SUSE CD1 for this purpose, boot  
it, try and see if your data is there or not. Sure see if the disk is  
detected!

HINT: dmesg, fdisk -l, e2label, etc..
