Man, how the mighty are fallen. Back when it was AMI-produced, MegaRAID
referred solely to genuine hardware RAID. I see they've cheapened it:

So, apparently now the term also refers to some fakeraid flavour (that
is, manufacturer-specific software RAID) built into certain Intel ICH6R
block-device chipsets and others.
Suggestion: How about disabling software RAID in the option BIOS (or
motherboard BIOS, and using Linux's "md" software RAID, instead? It's
pretty much guaranteed to be faster and more reliable.
